What happened
Continuation. The metals/jewelry program founded in 1970 was not closed or renamed away — it persists as the Small Metal/Jewelry area inside Cabrillo's Art Studio program. Over time the standalone studio disciplines were consolidated under the School of Visual, Applied & Performing Arts (VAPA), and studio-art credentials are now the consolidated A.A./A.A.-T Studio Arts degrees rather than a discrete metals certificate. Courses (ART 8A et al.) remained active through at least Fall 2025, and Small Scale Metals/Jewelry scholarships are still awarded. The archived founding faculty (Lynda Watson-Abbott 1970–1995, Nancy Megan Corwin 1984–1989, Dawn E. Nakanishi) are historical; current Art Studio leadership is department chair Claire Thorson. I could not confirm from public pages exactly which current instructor teaches the metals courses.
