Now known as
Jewelry + Metals concentration within the Craft + Design major
What happened
The independent Jewelry + Metals BFA major was consolidated into a new combined Craft + Design major (launched ~2022-23 academic year), with Jewelry + Metals retained only as a concentration alongside Ceramics and Glass. In April 2024 CIA's administration (per Dean Greg Watts) determined it was no longer sustainable to keep five ranked faculty in the combined major and eliminated two positions in Jewelry + Metals — those of longtime professors Kathy Buszkiewicz (faculty since 1983) and Matthew Hollern — effective end of FY2023-24, leaving a single instructor to cover the full breadth of the concentration (soldering, casting, CAD/3D modeling, etc.). A Change.org petition opposed the cuts. The concentration continues to exist but in a substantially reduced/restructured form.
