What happened
Continuation. The metals/jewelry offering has persisted as part of the 3D studio curriculum. The department was renamed from "Department of Art" to "Department of Art + Design" in recent years. As of 2026 the program is active, with Chris Kahler serving as chair and Erin M. Rice teaching metalsmithing. No closure or merger of the metals area was found; it remains embedded in the studio art degrees rather than being a freestanding metals/jewelry degree.
