What happened
The archived record listed John M. Church "1970 to present," but that was stale: Church taught metalsmithing, jewelry, and drawing at Interlochen 1970–2000 (30 years), then retired. He died May 4, 2021, in Traverse City, MI. The metals program itself has continued without interruption and remains an active studio area within the Visual Arts major; the program is well-resourced via the 36,000 sq ft Dow Center for Visual Arts (2008). No closure, merger, or rename of the metals offering. Interlochen also notes a "College of Creative Arts" continuation pathway, but the core metals program sits in the high-school Arts Academy and summer Arts Camp.
