What happened
James Malenda, the archived faculty member (Professor of Fine Metals, 1987 to present), retired and became Professor Emeritus of Fine Metals in 2015 — coinciding with the directory going offline. He had taught in the "Department of Art Education and Crafts" for 27 years. Since then, that department appears to have been renamed/reorganized into the "Department of Art Education" (chair Dr. Peg Speirs), and the dedicated BFA-in-Craft Fine Metals concentration is no longer advertised as a degree path. Metals/jewelry instruction is no longer a named concentration in either the Art Education or Art and Design BFA programs; only residual metalworking facilities (in the Sculpture Shop) and a student Metals Society remain. Best read as a merge/wind-down of the dedicated metals/jewelry program around Malenda's 2015 retirement rather than a publicly announced closure.
