Jewelry & Metalsmithing coursework within 3D Visual Arts / Visual Arts Department
What happened
Lane Community College (Eugene, OR) remains open and active. The metals/jewelry offering was not a discrete named program that closed; it appears to have continued as coursework absorbed into the Visual Arts Department / 3D Visual Arts area of study. The current catalog still lists ART 257 Introduction to Jewelry and Metalsmithing (4 credits), alongside sculpture/casting/welding, with credits feeding the AAOT transfer degree. No evidence of a formal closure of metals/jewelry; no jewelry/metals-specific program head is findable. Separately, in 2026 LCC undertook budget cuts and suspended its Criminal Justice and Health Information Management associate degrees, but jewelry/metals/visual arts was NOT among the named cuts. Could not retrieve the original ~2014 archived directory entry (Wayback fetch was blocked), so the exact prior listing/degree status is unconfirmed.
