What happened
The metals/jewelry program never closed — it continues uninterrupted. The principal change is institutional: in August 2021 Maine College of Art renamed itself Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) under its "Envisioning Our Future 2027" strategic plan, reflecting that ~60% of students pursue design careers. The program itself was not merged or renamed; it remains the BFA Metalsmithing & Jewelry major. Leadership has turned over since the archived ~2014 record: the two archived faculty, Tim McCreight and Alan Perry, are no longer listed; the program is now chaired by Professor Sharon Portelance ('82), with Associate Professor Kyle Patnaude and a studio technician (Wyatt Nestor-Pasiczny).
