What happened
The program continues and is thriving. It celebrated its 50th anniversary with an exhibition Sept 13 – Nov 27, 2024, indicating a founding around 1974. Richard Helzer (long-time metals professor named in the archived record, "1970 to present") has since retired and was featured as an alumnus/contributor in the 50th anniversary exhibition. Leadership of the School of Art is now Josh DeWeese; the metals area is currently taught by instructor Victoria Burchill. No closure, merger, or rename — the metals/jewelry area name and home (School of Art) are unchanged.
