What happened
CLOSED. NAU historically offered a B.F.A. in Jewelry & Metalsmithing (an Extended Major in the Art department, documented in the 2006 and 2009 academic catalogs). The jewelry and metalsmithing program was eliminated and ran its final term in spring 2023, with a final group of six jewelry/metalsmithing BFA students showing work at the Beasley Gallery (reception April 13, 2023), per the Arizona Daily Sun (March 11, 2023). The current Studio Art BFA catalog (2024-25 and 2025-26) lists no jewelry/metals emphasis. The archived directory record's metals presence (Joseph Cornett "1980 to present") reflects the program's earlier, now-discontinued era; the program has been closed since spring 2023, not merged or renamed.
