What happened
Continuation. The metals/jewelry program at NIU has continued without closure or merger since ~2014. It has been modernized and renamed/branded as "Metalwork, Jewelry Design and Digital Fabrication," emphasizing digital fabrication alongside traditional metalsmithing (forging, raising, casting, electroforming). It remains part of the School of Art and Design (NASAD member since 1969), which also restructured the umbrella BFA from "Studio Art" to "Art Studio and Design." Current resident metals faculty member is Jamie Obermeier.
