What happened
The metals/jewelry program (started 1978) has continued without interruption. Chris Ramsay — the archived "1990 to present" faculty member — taught metals/jewelry/3D design at OSU from 1990 to 2023, also serving as Art Department Head (2008-2012 and 2020). He retired in 2023 and is now Professor Emeritus. After his retirement the metals/jewelry teaching has been carried by Cloris Yuchen Ding (Visiting Assistant Professor, RISD-trained metalsmith). The area remains a listed concentration within the Studio Art BFA/BA. The department itself underwent leadership changes over this period (Chris Whittey held the Vennerberg Chair/Head role before leaving to direct Cranbrook Academy of Art; the headship has since changed hands). No closure, merger, or renaming of the metals program; it is now branded under the broader "Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History."
