What happened
The dedicated metals/jewelry degree program at Parsons did not survive to the present. Mary Ann Scherr chaired the Crafts Department (renamed Department of Clay, Metal, Glass and Textiles c.1980) from roughly 1979/1980 to 1989; William Harper was a 1979 visiting professor and Pamela Lins taught 1986–1991, consistent with the program being active into the early 1990s. By the time of the archived directory record (~2014) and as of 2026, Parsons' program finder lists no jewelry/metals/metalsmithing degree. The discipline persists only as shop facilities (Making Center E4 / Non-Ferrous-Jewelry shops), an elective studio course, and non-credit continuing-education classes. No specific closure date for the degree department was located; the transition appears to have happened sometime after the early 1990s, well before the directory went offline.
