What happened
The degree-granting Metal Arts area in the School of Visual Arts at University Park was effectively discontinued. Leslie Leupp, who headed Metals Arts from 1988, retired in 2006 (he died Feb 2011). The program was not continued/replaced as a concentration; by the archived-directory era (~2014) and today, the SoVA BFA/MFA no longer list metals or jewelry as an area of study. Hands-on metalsmithing/jewelry instruction at Penn State today is limited to non-credit continuing-education/community courses at branch campuses.
