Now known as
Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) — Metalsmithing & Jewelry program

What happened
The institution (not the program) was renamed, not closed. "Portland School of Art" (Portland, Maine; founded 1882 as Portland Society of Art, became Portland School of Art in 1972) was renamed Maine College of Art (MECA) in 1992, then Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) in 2021. The archived directory used the old "Portland School of Art" name, which had already been retired in 1992. The Metalsmithing & Jewelry program continued uninterrupted through both renames and remains an active BFA major. Sharon Portelance — herself a 1982 Portland School of Art alumna — has taught since 1999 and is current program chair (also served as Acting Dean / VP of Academic Affairs).
