What happened
Continuation with a brief disruption. The metals/jewelry program has run continuously as a studio area within the Art Department. Archived faculty (Earl Pardon 1951-1989, Arline Fisch 1957-1961, Sharon Church 1973-1976, Susan Hamlet from 1981) are the program's mid-century lineage; Pardon was the long-time anchor. Two Skidmore-alumni Facebook posts (Skidmore Class of 1992 group) indicate the college briefly "cut" a jewelry/metalsmithing course and then "reinstated" it — a curricular/staffing scare rather than a program closure. As of the 2026-2027 catalog the program, courses, and dedicated faculty (Peterson, Pillari) remain active and the studio pages are live.
