What happened
The dedicated metals/jewelry program was built and led by Thomas R. Markusen, who established the metal studio and taught sculpture and metal/jewelry from 1968 to 1998 (the archive's 'to present' is outdated; he retired in 1998). Albert Paley taught there roughly 1972-1984. After Markusen's 1998 retirement the distinct metals/jewelry program was not continued as its own area; metalwork was absorbed into the Sculpture concentration. By the current catalogs (2021-2025) the art major lists only Ceramics, Drawing, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, and Sculpture concentrations. No standalone metals/jewelry/CAD-CAM program exists today; active SUNY metals/jewelry instruction now lives at SUNY Buffalo State, not Brockport. Current Art Dept chair is Christian Carson.
