What happened
The archived faculty member Patrice (E.) Case taught studio art, jewelry, and metalsmithing (notably niello). At the start of the 2013–2014 academic year, SUNY Geneseo discontinued the Studio Art department/major (alongside Computer Science and Speech Pathology). Student journalism in subsequent years (e.g., a 2019 piece "Fulfilling the Absence of Art at SUNY Geneseo") lamented the absence of a studio art program and called for its restoration; it was not restored. Patrice E. Case is now listed among SUNY Geneseo's emeritus faculty (retired). Only the Department of Art History (academic study, not studio practice) continues, currently chaired by Alla Myzelev. So the metals/jewelry program effectively closed circa 2013–2014 with the elimination of studio art and has not been revived.
