What happened
Continuation with a leadership change. Rachelle Thiewes taught metals at UTEP from 1976 until her retirement in 2014 and is now Professor Emerita (Metals + Jewelry). The program continued under new faculty; Jess Tolbert is now Associate Professor and Head of Jewelry + Metals. The program remains nationally visible (alumna Cassandra Adame won UTEP's first Windgate-Lamar Fellowship; Thiewes named 2021 Master Metalsmith by the Metal Museum).
