What happened
UTPA closed via merger on Aug 31, 2015, becoming UTRGV (regents approved 2012-2013; operations began Sept 2015). Nancy Moyer — listed in the archived record as "1969 to present" and who chaired the UTPA art department ~17 years and ran its jewelry/metals teaching from the 1980s — is now Professor Emerita of Art and no longer active faculty. The art program persisted into UTRGV's School of Art and Design under the College of Fine Arts, but its concentrations were reorganized around Ceramics, Sculpture, and (2D/3D) Studio Art; a distinct metals/jewelry program is no longer offered as a named track. Jewelry remains available only as an optional media specialization within the MFA. UTRGV is consolidating art programs into a new Brownsville facility in 2026.
