What happened
The University of the Arts in Philadelphia abruptly announced closure on May 31, 2024, ceasing operations June 7, 2024. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education withdrew its accreditation effective June 1, 2024. The university filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation on September 13, 2024. The institution and all of its programs, including the historic crafts/metals/jewelry program, were permanently closed. Displaced students transferred to nearby schools including Temple University (Tyler School of Art), Moore College of Art & Design, and Drexel.
