What happened
The dedicated metalsmithing/jewelry program associated with the archived faculty (Charles Loloma, Bob Winston, and longtime head Michael Croft) no longer exists as a named discipline. Michael Croft (former SNAG president) retired and the standalone metals concentration was folded into the School of Art's consolidated "3D & Extended Media" division, which now bundles sculpture, ceramics, metal/wood fabrication, and extended media under one umbrella. Current leadership reflects general School of Art restructuring: Karen Zimmermann became interim director for 2025-26 with Gary Setzer as associate director. No public announcement of a discrete "closure" of the metals program was found; the change reads as a consolidation/rebranding rather than an outright shutdown, with metal facilities retained.
