What happened
Continuation, not closure. The metals/jewelry track persists as a living emphasis area in the Visual Arts BFA and MFA. The archived directory's listed faculty "Ellen Rose-Auyong, 1972 to present" does not correspond to any current UND Art & Design faculty found (possibly a directory error or a long-departed earlier instructor). Since at least 2004 the metalsmithing area has been taught by Donovan Widmer, who became department chair in January 2017 and received the North Dakota Museum of Art's Art Makers Award (2018-19). The curriculum has modernized to include CAD/CAM digital fabrication, 3D printing, and direct casting (ART 306).
