Now known as
Department of Visual Art and Design — Small Metals/Jewelry course sequence (within the Art BFA/BA)

What happened
The metals/jewelry offering was never a freestanding degree program; it is a studio-course track within the art department. Since ~2014 the department was renamed/reorganized to the "Department of Visual Art and Design," and its BFA was restructured around five broad emphases (2D Media, 3D Media, Art Education, Graphic Design, Photo/Video) with no distinct metals/jewelry emphasis — though the Small Metals/Jewelry I–III courses continue to be listed. The archived long-time faculty member Lorin S. Thunell ("1993 to present") is no longer on the Weber State faculty; he now lists himself as an art instructor at Salt Lake Community College, so the program lost its named metals instructor. Current art chair is Paul Crow. No metalsmithing faculty specialist is currently listed on the department faculty/staff page. (Note: Weber State announced 2025 cuts of 17 majors/8 minors/7 certificates under Utah HB 265; no confirmation found that metals/jewelry courses were specifically eliminated.)
