What happened
Continuation with leadership succession, no closure. Chuck Evans (who founded/opened the ISU metals program, taught 1978-2001) retired in 2001 and died July 31, 2015 (age 75). His successor Joe Muench — a 1984 ISU craft-design graduate — joined the faculty in 2001 and taught metalsmithing/jewelry until retiring in 2025 (cited as health reasons). The program itself continues as an active studio area; the umbrella undergraduate degree was renamed from "Integrated Studio Arts" to "Art, BFA," and the graduate degree is the MFA in Integrated Visual Arts. A 2025 exhibition, "Lessons Learned: Explorations in Metal" at the Octagon Center for the Arts, marked Muench's legacy.
