What happened
Continuation with a leadership/curriculum change. Marjorie Schick — the long-serving jewelry/metalsmithing professor named in the archived record ("1967 to present") — taught at Pittsburg State for 50 years and died December 17, 2017 (complications of a stroke), ending her tenure. The metals/jewelry program was not closed; it continues as a jewelry/crafts studio area within the Art department's BFA. Since the archive went offline, the BFA emphasis structure was reorganized (an earlier 2D/3D/Illustration/Art-Education split is now consolidated into Studio Practice and Art Education emphases). The department is currently chaired by James Oliver, Jr., and the metalsmithing studio in Porter Hall remains equipped and in use.
