Multifunctions

The inventor dreams in multifunctions; turning and milling and shaping things in nocturnal emissions of heat treated N-tanium. The fantasy was forged in foam children, with plastic toys that promised adult craftassery. But the work products of a few outshone those on the box and in the garage – so they were smashed by Butterfinger fathers in disgust. Polly Pocket Plaster Molders, Crayola Crayon Makers and Mattel Western World Injectors can almost be confused for Universal Constructors – pouring bags of raw matter into machines that give birth to more machines. This illusion is supported in the documentation; these toys can make toys. But we aspired to make new matter itself, so when the Porter Chemcraft set stopped coming with uranium and centrifuges we moved on to video games
