L69 — 5.0L H.O. 4-bbl (1983–1986)

L69 is the engine that lived in the high-output Trans Am before TPI took over. Same Gen-1 small-block architecture as the 305 LB9 that succeeded it, but with a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor on a dual-plane intake instead of port fuel injection. Period rating climbed from 175 hp net (1983) to 190 hp net (1984–86). It is the engine in 1985 GTA prototypes and 1986 transition cars; by 1987 the LB9 had taken over.
