What happened
The program continues uninterrupted and is one of the leading metals programs in the US. Founded by Alma Eikerman (1947-1978). Randy Long joined in 1983, was named a Distinguished Professor in 2017 (a leadership/honor change), and is the long-time anchor of the area. Nicole Jacquard (IU BA 1991, now Professor) is the current Area Head/Area Coordinator. Administratively, the home unit became the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design following Sidney and Lois Eskenazi's 2016 gift, so the program's parent school was renamed since ~2014, but the metals program itself was not closed, merged, or renamed. Facilities (in the Fine/Eskenazi Fine Arts Building) were renovated, including CAD/CAM and 3D-modeling/computer-aided machining equipment.
