3D4M: ceramics + glass + sculpture (within the School of Art + Art History + Design)

What happened
The dedicated jewelry/metals program, long headed by Mary Lee Hu (joined 1980) and John Marshall, announced its closure upon Hu's retirement in 2006 and graduated its last class in 2008. No metals/jewelry faculty line was refilled. By the ~2014-present period the discipline survives only as metal-fabrication facilities and occasional coursework folded into the 3D4M (ceramics + glass + sculpture) area; there is no metals/jewelry degree track. The Seattle Metals Guild absorbed some of the community/education role the program had filled. The 3D4M program itself is active (e.g., 2024 Open House); Mary Lee Hu received the 2024 SNAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
