Industrial Wool Felt

non-woven matted wool fiber · pressed wool felt, F-1 felt, SAE felt
metallic 0.00
hue shift +0°

Wool fiber matted together by heat, moisture, and pressure — no weaving, no stitching. Cuts cleanly with a laser or knife. The dense, slightly springy material of piano hammers, gasket strips, sound-deadening panels, and a generation of designerly product surfaces.

Non-woven textile formed by mechanical agitation and heat pressing of carded wool. Felts are graded by density (F-1 hard, F-3 medium, F-7 soft per SAE J314). Densities span 240 g/m² (soft) to 520 g/m² (hard). Sound-absorbent in the 1–4 kHz range; modest thermal insulator.

Sustainability

  • embodied carbon kg co2e per kg16.5
  • sourceEditorial estimate from ICE / Granta CES EduPack class databases — industry mean, with cradle-to-gate boundary unless otherwise noted. Embodied carbon for any specific product depends on supplier mix, recycled content, and energy grid; verify against a primary source before using these numbers in a sustainability claim.
  • recyclabilitymoderate — mechanical reclaim or compost; mothproofing chemicals limit some paths

visual
matte, opaque, depth of color in dyed grades, fuzzy edge unless laser-cut
tactile
warm, slightly springy, dense underfingers
weight perception
light to moderate
acoustic
absorbs sound — the hush a felt-lined room produces
