Chrysler 8 3/4-inch rear axle

Cast-iron carrier with 8.75-inch ring gear, dropout-style differential. The standard performance rear on most non-Hemi 1957–1974 Chrysler intermediates.

The 8 3/4 is the rear that holds together. A cast-iron axle housing with a removable third-member dropout containing the ring-and-pinion plus the differential carrier. Rebuilds happen on a workbench, not under the car. Through 1969 it used a tapered-pinion design, switched in 1970 to a thicker straight-pinion that survives behind 440 Six-Pack and Hemi engines without complaint.

Code A33 Track Pak in 1970 brings the 8 3/4 with Sure-Grip and a 3.54 ratio. A34 Super Track Pak swaps the carrier for the heavier Dana 60 (see separate entry) and a 4.10 ratio. Most 1970 V-code Super Bees with the optional axle package run 8 3/4 unless they were ordered with A34.
