Y82 is the 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am — built to commemorate the Trans Am's 1969 introduction and to serve as the Indianapolis 500 pace car. The engine is the 3.8-litre turbocharged V6 from the late Buick Grand National (LD5 in earlier Buick form), here detuned slightly to 250 hp net. The transmission is the Hydra-Matic 200-4R automatic; no manual was offered. All cars are white over tan leather, with cross-lace 16-inch wheels and a discreet Twentieth Anniversary badge on the rear deck.
Total production: 1,555 cars. Each carries the Y82 callout in the SPID label option block. Verifiable VINs are tracked in the Trans Am 20th Anniversary registry; cars sold today should match registry records on VIN, build sheet, and option callouts. Plenum decodes the SPID label fully and flags any callout that diverges from the registry's per-VIN expectations.
