Mold texture — pebble grain

texture · textured · MT-11010 pebble analog, VDI 3400 ref 30–34, fine pebble grain

Finer than leather grain — sub-millimeter pebble texture on the inside of an injection mold. Reads as soft tooth, almost satin from a meter away. The texture on a pen body, a laptop palmrest, a remote control, the soft-touch ABS of a consumer-electronics enclosure.

Photochemical or laser-etched mold texture in the pebble / orange-peel family. Reference levels: Mold-Tech MT-11010 (fine, ~6 µm Ra), MT-11015 (medium, ~10 µm Ra). VDI 3400 plates 30–34 (Ra 5–9 µm) cover the analogous range. Release with ~3° draft per side. Often paired with matte color formulation in the resin so the texture reads as the dominant character — the fine pebble breaks up specular reflection completely, hiding both flow lines and minor warpage.

character — fine soft tooth, near-matte, fingerprint-tolerant, the consumer-tech default.

Second life

reversibilityzero on the textured surface — texture is in the substrate. Removable only by additional material removal or by overcoating to fill the texture.

renewabilitymoderate — re-texturing is possible at the cost of removing the original texture and any material below it. Sandblast and acid-etch textures can be re-applied by repeating the original process.
